The Game of Thrones cast and crew aren't exactly forthcoming with the spoilers, so even the most devoted book fans are left wondering what, precisely, will happen on each new episode of the hit series.
Fortunately, we do have the previews to help us out. We've read the press release about the episode, and closely examined the preview for Season 2, Episode 5: "The Ghost of Harrenhal" (which you can watch here). This is what we can glean about what's going down in Westeros and beyond this week:
Arya's odd ally: The HBO press release about the episode says that "Arya receives a promise from the enigmatic Jaqen H'ghar." In this preview, we see Jaqen explain that because Arya saved him and his caged companions (in the fight at the end of Episode 3: "What Is Dead May Never Die"), she "stole three lives from the Red God," and they "have to give them back." Later, we see Arya clarify, "I can name anyone, and you'll kill him?" It sounds like Jaqen has promised Arya to kill her enemies. That could come in handy … especially because she's still stuck as Tywin's cup bearer.
Chaos! According to the press release, "Confusion rages in the Stormlands in the wake of a devastating reversal." In the preview, we see Brienne in a fight. She seems entirely devoted to Renly — could the reversal be that she attacks him? Or perhaps she's protecting him... (Book readers will have a clue!).
Davos' warning: Davos is understandably displeased with Melisandre after seeing her terrifying shadow baby, and in the preview he warns Stannis that if Stannis takes Mel with him — to battle Renly? To attack King's Landing? It's unclear — than the victory will be Melisandre's, not Stannis's.
Battle beyond the wall: It looks like Jon and his brethren beyond The Wall are preparing to fight, and according to the press release they'll arrive at the "Fist of the First Men." Have they found the army of Wildlings that Craster warned them about?
Dany still wants the Iron Throne: And she thinks "the time to strike is now." She tells her new friend, Xaro Xhoan Daxos, as much. Will he help her achieve her goal?
The North attacked: Bran is told "Torrhen's Square is under siege," and the press release says " Theon seeks to prove himself to his father in battle." It sounds to us like Balon Greyjoy has begun his attack on the North.
Catch the episode on Sunday, April 29 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on HBO.
