If you thought the first half of the season of Amy Sherman Palladino’s Bunheads could have packed more of a punch, you’re probably not alone. While every episode has filled our craving for snappy, pop culture reference-oozing dialogue, the plotlines have often left us wishing we could just go a little bit deeper into some of the issues facing Michelle (Sutton Foster), Fanny (Kelly Bishop), and the girls.

Well, wouldn’t you know that the summer’s last episode reads like a checklist for everything you’ve been wishing for!

Impressive dance number with talented SYTYCD guest star? Check!
Kent Boyd returns for the kind of performance that makes you wish every episode let choreographer Marguerite Derricks show us what she’s made of. If you thought Boyd’s performance in episode eight was good, or you have a soft spot for the paper vs. plastic/recycling war dance in episode five, trust us, the finale’s opening number is even better.

Comedy that plays up each character’s quirks? Check!
These scenes are not just funny for the sake of passing time. Sasha (Julia Goldani Telles) rediscovers her passion for ballet as she faces off with a robotic prima donna ready to go all Black Swan on her. Ginny’s (Bailey Buntain) boy troubles finally reach a conclusion — as does her now strained friendship with BFFs Melanie (Emma Dumont) and Boo (Kaitlyn Jenkins). Not that Boo isn’t keeping herself busy, making a gesture that is sweet and cringe-worthy in equal measures to fix her relationship with dance partner Carl (Casey J. Adler).

Michelle finally makes a move! Check.
Actually she makes many moves. The Vegas showgirl who couldn’t commit to a toothbrush has finally found her groove in Paradise. She choreographs. She makes out with the hot bartender. And if you stick around for the end, we guarantee she’ll make you cry.

The Season 1 summer finale of Bunheads — "A Nutcracker in Paradise" — airs tonight at 9 p.m. ET/PT on ABC Family.
