Say it ain't so!
Channing Tatum says he will be taking an indefinite hiatus from acting, starting sometime in 2013. Instead, he plans to develop a movie idea with his producing partner, Reid Carolin, which Channing hopes to direct.
“[Reid and I] have about three to four ideas that we love that are all in the hopper. By the end of next year, we’re going to shut things down and write the first thing that we’re going to direct,” Channing explains. "We’re going to be like, 'All right, no more acting parts for a minute, let’s take a few and really get caring about that section of our career.'"
But don't fret too much, as this year's Sexiest Man Alive has been super-busy recently filming a bunch of varied films that we'll be seeing next year. Those include the save-the-president action film White House Down and a medical thriller, Side Effects, from his Magic Mike director, Steven Soderbergh.
Plus, the long-delayed G.I. Joe 2 will finally see a release next year. In other words, there's still plenty of Channing to
drool over go around.
"I love the steps that I’ve taken acting-wise. That has been a wild sort of exploration," Channing says. “But I don’t want to just keep putting [directing] off for these fun and incredible opportunities.”
Plus, if Channing indeed stays away from acting for an extended amount of time, we can always watch Magic Mike over and over again — as if we weren't planning on doing that anyway. Just so long as he "vows" to come back to acting before too long.
