Fans of NBC’s Community know that Jeff Winger’s (Joel McHale) absentee deadbeat father has played an integral role in his becoming the smooth-talking narcissist that he is, as well as informing the way he interacts with the whole Community gang. But we’ve never actually seen Jeff’s Dad on screen! According to TVLine, that will change on the upcoming fourth season.

It’s not clear whether Jeff’s dad will be a recurring character or a single-episode guest role, but his appearance is sure to stir up some of Jeff’s long-standing Daddy issues that have been the fertile source of storylines and Jeff’s overall character development since the first season. Perhaps on the heels of showrunner Dan Harmon’s shocking firing, writers are trying to lure longtime fans to stay with the show by threading in some old storylines?

But the big question on fans’ minds is which actor could effectively play Jeff’s Dad — as it no doubt requires a special blend of looks, snark, and generous forehead size to do so convincingly. TVLine’s suggestions include Bill Murray, Bruce Willis, and Corbin Bernsen, but we’ve kind of always longed for the reveal that Pierce (Chevy Chase) is really Jeff’s dad — it could work!
