It’s not uncommon to see a hot, professional soccer player kicked off the field — unless they happen to be on the sidelines fuming while watching a bunch of 7-year-old kids play. As a guest on The Jonathan Ross Show, megastar David Beckham admitted that he was once guilty of just that.
As he explains it, he was waiting for his son’s game to start when “there was a penalty given” to a player on the field. Even though he wasn’t connected to the kid in question, the star of the Super Bowl’s steamiest ad didn’t like the call and spoke up.
“I was like, ‘Come on, he’s 7 years old, referee! You can’t send him off,’” reminisced Becks. The ref responded that he could, and when David didn’t back down, he got a red card of his own. The proud soccer dad had to leave the park until his son’s team took the field.
Aside from the occasional outburst, the LA galaxy player thinks his presence is appreciated. “The dads like seeing me there,” he claimed.
Um, we’re pretty sure the moms aren’t complaining either. Have you seen his underwear ads? Plus, he won himself extra bonus points in our book for standing up for someone else’s child. Sweet, no?
