Thanks to Hurricane Sandy, both David Letterman and Jimmy Fallon played to quiet, empty NYC houses last night. They had no audiences — although their guests did arrive.

Jimmy featured Seth Meyers, Padma Lakshmi, Robert Zemeckis and the band Imagine Dragons. Letterman had Flight star Denzel Washington on the show and, according to Us Weekly, he showed up in a yellow rain slicker. "Only for you, Dave ... I swam." Dave thanked viewers for joining them "in the Ed Sullivan Shelter."

On his show, Jimmy joked, "Theater owners had to cancel all Broadway shows today. Many performers were having trouble making it into the city. You could tell by that one show, Blue Man Guy." Jimmy's show included a live report from the nearly empty streets of New York City. Watch that video below.

It's definitely eerie to listen to jokes with no audience laughter, but maybe it's a good test of what's really funny — like, not a hurricane!
