Yesterday afternoon, a British journalist named Laurie Penny said she was crossing the street at 6th Avenue in New York City when a taxicab nearly ran her over. Thankfully, Ryan Gosling was there to save the day … and her life!

"I literally, LITERALLY just got saved from a car by Ryan Gosling. That actually just happened," she tweeted. "I was crossing 6th avenue in a new pink wig. Not looking the right way because I am from London. Ryan Gosling grabbed me away from a taxi."

The writer, who is just shy of 40,000 Twitter followers, initially thought the man was someone named Jed Weightman, but a female witness confirmed Ryan's identity and proceeded to call Laurie a "lucky bitch." Rightfully so!

While we don't doubt Ryan's heroism (he did break up a street fight last year, after all), we can't help but notice how much her tale resembles the opening scene from the 2004 film Closer, starring Natalie Portman and Jude Law.

Pink hair? Check. Girl looks the wrong way while crossing the street in a foreign country? Check. Hot man saves the day? Check. Add that to the fact Jude Law plays a journalist, and Natalie Portman's character is an American citizen in London, and well, sounds like one heck of a coincidence to us!

Multiple media outlets have reached out to Laurie for comment, but she seems to be keeping mum … for now.

"EVERYBODY NEEDS TO CALM DOWN ABOUT RYAN GOSLING NOW," she wrote. "No seriously. My phone and email have been going crazy with media requests all night and all morning and it's getting silly now."

What do you think of Laurie's story? Do you believe that Ryan Gosling really saved the pink-haired British journalist from getting hit by a taxicab, or is this whole thing one big publicity stunt?
