The director of such cult favorites as Snakes on a Plane and The Final Destination has died of unknown reasons.

Film director David R. Ellis was found dead on January 7 in a South African hotel bathroom, according to TMZ.

Apparently, the details about his death are unclear. He leaves behind a wife and three children.

His most recent film was 2011's Shark Night 3D.

Upon hearing the news, Samuel L. Jackson tweeted, "So sad to hear of David R Ellis passing! So talented, so kind, such a Good Friend. He'll be missed. Gone too soon!"
