Is there a gold medal for apathy?
The Olympics are all the rage this summer, but that didn't help U.S. Vogue's June issue, which featured Dancing With the Stars alum Hope Solo, Ryan Lochte and Serena Williams on the cover, but sold just 202,000 copies on the newsstand — making it the weakest-selling issue of the year. That's 33 percent below Vogue's six-month average.
Maybe we all just got our fill of hot Olympic athletes from the "free" images online and on TV? Or maybe they just needed to put these guys on the cover.
For comparison's sake, Adele was on the cover of Vogue's March issue and helped them sell an above-average 410,000 copies.
Meanwhile, the Daily Mail reports, Kim Kardashian is responsible for both Allure and Glamour magazine's worst selling covers, with just 117,000 copies sold in March and 373,000 in January, respectively. Way to over-achieve, Kim! Time to take the hint, magazine editors?
However, get a load of this — the topless Lauren Conrad was Glamour magazine's best seller, helping to sell 500,072 copies of its swimsuit issue. Do you think readers went for Lauren, the toplessness or just the words “swimsuit issue”?
