Singer Donna Summer passed away yesterday of cancer, and she believed she knew what was to blame for her ailment: Toxic fumes from the September 11 attacks.
According to TMZ, Donna was living in lower Manhattan on September 11, 2001, and she was extremely frightened by the acrid clouds of dust and fumes that coated the city. After 9/11, she began spraying disinfectant throughout her home and hanging silk sheets in her dressing room to keep the dust out. And when she was diagnosed with lung cancer, she was convinced that 9/11 was the culprit.
Of course, sources point out, Donna was also a smoker, which is a far more common cause of lung cancer. But Donna’s far from the only New Yorker to experience serious health problems following 9/11.
