This was not Mad Men's year.

Not only was the acclaimed series once again shut out of the acting categories, but for the first time in its run it lost out on Outstanding Drama Series during the 2012 Emmys.

If Mad Men had won, it would have become the most honored drama in Emmy history. However, Showtime's freshmen thriller, Homeland, put an end to that dream (at least for this year).

Homeland took home the top honor, as well as Best Actress (Claire Danes) and Best Actor (Damian Lewis in another major upset). It beat out Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Boardwalk Empire, Game of Thrones, and Downton Abbey.

It looks like Homeland is a new drama juggernaut in the making. Next year's Emmy betting pool is going to get really interesting.

Are you happy with Homeland's win, or were you hoping a different show would take it?
