As the singing-dancing-acting star of Nickelodeon shows like Zoey 101 and Victorious, Victoria Justice is a household name with the tween set — but she’s starting to attract some major mainstream attention. This year, the Creative Arts Emmys saw fit to honor Victorious with a nomination for Outstanding Children’s Program, and the star is planning to release her debut solo album.

Wetpaint Entertainment caught up with Victoria at Teen Vogue’s Declare Your Denim show during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York City, where she chatted with fans and posed for pictures alongside Pretty Little Liars star Shay Mitchell. Victoria was just wrapping up a flurry of high-profile events following her attendance at the Creative Arts Emmys ceremony on September 10. “It was incredible,” she said of the Emmys. “It was an honor to be nominated. We didn’t win, but just to be there was enough. It was crazy because I left on a redeye right after the Emmys to come here to New York, so it’s been kind of a whirlwind.”

But she was happy to chat about her musical projects, both those that are a part of her show, Victorious, and the solo work she’s hoping to kick off. “It’s going great,” she said of her music. “We just released the Victorious soundtrack, so I’m focusing on that right now. I’m writing a lot of music for myself, whenever I have free time — it’s just that my schedule has been so crazy. But I’m really excited to show people who I am as a solo artist, outside of the show.”

The road from tween stardom to adult success is a treacherous one, Victoria (as Lindsay Lohan has so deftly demonstrated), but we’ll be crossing our fingers for you!
