If you're a fan of the racy Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy, you needn't be ashamed — and you're certainly not alone!
The sexy novel has been named the biggest-selling book of 2012.
"E.L. James' erotic trilogy was easily the year's biggest hit, selling more than 35 million copies in the U.S. alone and topping bestseller lists for months," according to U.S. News & World Report.
Also, the three books of the trilogy take up the top three slots on Amazon's list of the best-selling books of the year. Grey sold the most, followed by Darker, and Freed in third.
In addition, the books may have helped save the publishing field as a whole, or at least shown that publishing still has a place in the modern marketplace. "In a year when print was labeled as endangered and established publishers referred to as 'legacy' companies, defined and beholden to the past, the allure remained for buying and reading bound books," continues U.S. News.
The magazine states that E.L. James would have gotten much more money had she self-published her work through Amazon or her own website, but the fact that she used a publishing house proves that they are still valuable.
Either way, it's safe to say that a lot of people will be receiving one of these three books in their stocking this year - although the books might be given to the naughty people, not the nice ones!
