One of the most highly anticipated new characters of Game of Thrones Season 2 is Stannis Baratheon, the late King Robert's brother, and the rightful heir to the Iron Throne. In case you've somehow forgotten this particular plot point, he's the heir because Robert's children were actually fathered by Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau). Twincest, yay!
In this new character profile from HBO, we learn a bit more about Stannis, who is played by Stephen Dillane.
"Stannis is a warrior: severe, and puritanical," Stephen explains. "His main concern seems to be justice, that somehow the world should be just, and the consequences of justice would be that he would be king."
As this preview shows, Stannis finds an unlikely partner in a foreign priestess, Melisandre (Carice van Houten), and a potential foe in his own brother, Renly Baratheon (Gethin Anthony), who apparently has no interest in letting his unlikable older brother get the crown. Well, Renly, and basically everyone else with an army in all of Westeros.
You know what that means: More fighting, more bloodshed, and more awesome. Check it out below.
