Is Lifetime trying to steal NBC’s thunder?
TV Guide reports that Lifetime is currently developing a Silence of the Lambs prequel centered on Clarice Starling, Jodie Foster’s FBI agent character in the 1991 psychological thriller. The announcement comes not long after NBC revealed its plans for Hannibal, a series focused on the relationship between Silence of the Lambs creepo Hannibal Lecter and FBI criminal profiler Will Graham (Hugh Dancy). All of the Hannibal movies — Silence of the Lambs, Hannibal, and Red Dragon — and these forthcoming shows are based on Thomas Harris’s series of books about the serial killer, made (in)famous by Anthony Hopkins's Oscar-winning portrayal.
Despite their shared source material, the two shows are unlikely to overlap: Dr. Lecter won’t feature in Clarice, and Clarice won’t feature in Hannibal.
One thing's for sure: You won’t want to watch either one alone in the dark... especially if good ol’ Hannibal goes full cannibal. Yeesh.
