It’s official — for the entirety of 2012 we will not see a new Ryan Gosling film released in theaters. Sad trombone.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Warner Bros. has decided to postpone the September 7 release of Ryan’s new film Gangster Squad to give the studio time to reshoot key scenes and reboot the film’s marketing campaign.
The decision is a direct result of the the July 20 Dark Knight Rises shooting spree in Aurora, Colo., as Gangster Squad features a key scene of men opening fire on a movie theater audience. The trailer featuring the chilling scene was pulled from theaters immediately, and now the film’s release date has been pushed back to January 2013.
What about Baby Goose’s other projects? The Place Beyond the Pines — a drama co-starring girlfriend Eva Mendes and Bradley Cooper — still hasn’t locked down U.S. distribution, so there’s no official release date yet. His reunion with Drive director Nicolas Winding Refn, Only God Forgives, also has no definite release date, though early 2013 seems likely.
In the meantime, we recommend marathon sessions of Crazy, Stupid, Love — and this.
