House is wrapping its eight-season run tonight, May 21, with “Everybody Dies.” The ominous series finale title is certainly symbolic, considering the show kicked off its freshman season with “Everybody Lies.” But is it also indicative of dark things to come in the finale? Given Wilson’s (Robert Sean Leonard) battle with The Big C, we’re not expecting a cheery sendoff for the popular medical drama.
Here’s what we know so far...
The Episode Synopsis
While treating a drug addict patient (guest star James LeGros), House (Hugh Laurie) takes stock of his life, his future, and his own personal demons.
- Several familiar faces will return: Thirteen (Olivia Wilde), Masters (Amber Tamblyn), Kutner (Kal Penn), and Cameron (Jennifer Morrison) are all set to make cameos in the finale.
- Don’t expect a clichéd or neatly wrapped up ending: Hugh Laurie tells E! Online, “[Series creator David Shore] would go out of his way not to create some sort of false, very heightened ending in which things blow up and people get married or don't or whatever, in which everything is sort of resolved. Because life isn’t like that. [The ending] may be tied up, but it’ll more be stapled up. I don't think there’ll be any bows.”
Robert Sean Leonard adds, “I think the door’s going to slam and that’s going to be it.”
- It’ll be sad, but satisfying: Jesse Spencer (Chase) spills to TVLine, “[The finale] is not going to be the happiest thing in the world.” However, it will be “an appropriately satisfying ending for longtime viewers.”
