Move over, Matthew McConaughey and Christian Bale, there's a new Method actor transforming for a role — 66-year-old Sally Field.

Sassy Sally already has a couple of Oscars, but when you're playing opposite Daniel Day-Lewis you have to swing for the fences to get another one. Sally plays Mary Todd Lincoln opposite Danny D-L's Honest Abe in Steven Spielberg's new film Lincoln. To play the role, the former Gidget had to gain 25 pounds.

Sally told Jay Leno (via UsMagazine.com) that she ate brown rice and pro-Gain protein drinks to put on weight. "Oh God, it was just disgusting. I never had a fun meal, basically. It just was discipline." She said it took her about six months to gain the weight and a year to lose it — even with two trainers helping her through intense workouts four times a week. She said she eventually had to have knee surgery because her small frame couldn't hold the extra weight.

Look what you started, Mary Todd! Seriously, do you think the Hollywood extreme weight gains/losses are worth it? Would you do it?
