With Beyonce preggers and Jay-Z pondering a move back to his hometown of Brooklyn to raise his growing family, we were wondering where, exactly, a mega-millionaire music mogul could settle down in the style to which he’s grown accustomed.
After seeing members of the CORE Group solve many a real estate mystery on HGTV’s Selling New York, we figured someone over there would know the perfect spot for the uber-couple and their baby. Core Senior V.P. and resident Brooklyn expert, Doug Bowen, leads us to the most exclusive digs the borough’s got to offer.
Wetpaint Entertainment: What would be the ultimate Jay-Z/Beyonce Brooklyn power pad?
Doug Bowen: There are some really unique, high-end properties in Brooklyn, and as we like to say in Brooklyn, there’s no better view of Manhattan than from outside Manhattan. The Clocktower property at One Main Street has been on the market for a little bit of time. It’s one of the most extraordinary properties in New York. The Clocktower, I believe, is asking $23.5 million.
The Clocktower is the top of David Walentas's signature building in DUMBO. It features multiple levels and outdoor space, and, of course, the most dramatic thing about the Clocktower is that the actual face of the clocks are in the main living area. So you look through the face of the clocks out into the view.
That might be a bit public for the privacy-loving Jay-Z. What if he wants to blend in?
Brooklyn Heights is probably the most established neighborhood in Brooklyn. If he were to be looking in Brooklyn Heights, he would likely be looking at a townhouse type of property. There is a property on the market on Willow Street that is a 9,000-square foot, eleven-bedroom house, which is just under $15 million.
What else does Brooklyn have that Manhattan doesn’t?
Brooklyn is a globally recognized brand. It’s probably the most recognized brand in the world coming out of New York City right now. So the western shore has developed all these prime neighborhoods. It’s where people are moving to. It’s probably the go-to area for quite a number of people who are looking to come to New York. It’s no longer just Manhattan that is getting people’s attention.
