Fans of The Colbert Report were disappointed to learn that the final two tapings for this week had been unexpectedly canceled. As salt in the wound, no real reason was given for the sudden shutdown.

Comedy Central simply announced that “unforeseen circumstances” were behind their decision to air reruns on Wednesday, February 15 and Thursday, February 16, instead of the new episodes they were scheduled to film.

An insider revealed to The Wrap that the show will resume “soon,” without providing a firm date. In the meantime, we’ll have to get our daily dose of sarcasm and satire elsewhere. Sigh...

UPDATE: A source tells the Daily News that, on Wednesday, staffers were told that Colbert had a "family emergency." The Huffington Post is also reporting that Colbert's mother is seriously ill.
