To us, Labor Day sounds like a rom-com starring Katherine Heigl as a newly artificially inseminated woman who’s trying to balance impending single motherhood, her career, and the pastry chef down the hall who turns into a love interest despite his unsolicited baby advice. Instead, it’s actually a movie adapted from a Joyce Maynard novel, starring Kate Winslet and Josh Brolin.
The film centers around the disappearance of a divorcée and her child: Winslet and her son go missing during Labor Day weekend after being picked up by Brolin’s character. The Hollywood Reporter has learned that James Van Der Beek is joining the cast as a police officer investigating the matter.
Hooray for Van Der Beek and his career resurgence. The Beek from the Creek has been parodying himself on Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23, but we’re hoping the emotional nature of the new movie will require James to bust out his weepy Dawson face.
