Lend me your ears  but not literally.

Actor/musician Jared Leto has revealed that he recently received a fan's severed ear in the mail as a gift, according to Us Weekly.

Jared was discussing his band 30 Seconds to Mars with radio station Xfm, and the topic turned to the band's devoted fanbase.

"The fans are an incredibly committed and passionate group of people," the 41-year-old explains. "Going to a show is kind of like visiting Japan  you expect gifts on your arrival."

Case in point?

"Someone cut their ear off once and sent it to me," he continues. "That was very strange. A whole ear. The Van Gogh move. The note just said, 'Are you listening?'"

"I never knew who it was, who's missing their ear out there," Jared says.

However, the former My So-Called Life star didn't appear to be too squeamish around the mystery person's ear.

"I poked a hole in it and wore it as a necklace!" Jared adds.

But Jared doesn't want to encourage bizarre gift-giving from fans in the future.

"Don't put your entire body in a case and send it to us," he says. That seems like sage advice.

We always knew that being a rock fan could lead to hearing loss, but this isn't what we meant.
