One wouldn’t necessarily equate ostriches with beauty — and even the radiant Jennifer Lawrence looks a little bizarre bedecked in the ungainly bird’s feathers on the cover of the October issue of W.
Well-known and adored for playing the brave Katniss in The Hunger Games, the 22-year-old speaks out in the magazine about her own professional courage, first tested when she played a rape victim at age 15 in The Poker House.
Then she had to lose whatever modesty she had left for that other blockbuster of hers, X-Men: First Class, in which she portrayed the royal-blue mutant Mystique — and the experience emboldened her as an actress. “I had to go around naked, with scales over my private parts, surrounded by men. That cures you of all inhibition.”
Jen also admits to having had a fair amount of reluctance to taking what would become her defining role thus far. “I was afraid that Katniss would overwhelm any other character I’d try to do. But I love Katniss, and she didn’t take over as much of my life as I thought she would.”
Still, taking chances doesn’t come any easier now that she’s a seasoned actress. “When you’re little, you jump on any wild horse. Then you get a little bit older and realize how fragile life is, and you’re more careful.”
Not so careful as to avoid this avant-garde avian attire, though!
