What could be cuter than a tiny tome of tiny stories? The book’s editor, 50/50 star Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

Out today, The Tiny Book of Tiny Stories: Volume 1 is a collection of 33 mini-narratives culled from 8,600 submissions to Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s collaborative production website, hitRECord.

Of the book, Joseph dished to The Los Angeles Times, "This is very much an exercise in brevity. How economical can you be with your storytelling, how much fat can you trim, how much redundancy can you eliminate?"

One of the poetry-esque, illustrated stories about an egg and an orange runs a mere 26 words — and it really shouldn’t be any longer.

Joseph adds, "When you let go of being the unilateral creator and let in a collaborative community, things take on qualities that never would have happened through the old-fashioned, ownership-oriented creative process."

Joseph started hitRECord in 2005, but he changed the site’s focus to collaborative production in 2010. Now 70,000 members strong, this online community generates upwards of 1,000 video/art/writing/song submissions daily.

He can sing, he can act, he can write/edit — and he’s eloquent to boot! Is there anything JGL can’t do?

Volumes 2 and 3, which will feature equally tiny stories, are slated for release in fall 2012 and 2013. Snap up the first pint-size installment now before it goes big!
