According to executive producer Graham Yost, Justified Season 4 is basing its new season-long mystery on the true story of a crooked Kentucky cop and a drug operation dubbed "the Bluegrass Conspiracy."

As TV Guide reports, the major players U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens (Timothy Olyphant) has had to deal with — "including Detroit mob boss Theo Tonin (Adam Arkin), former friend Boyd Crowder (Walton Goggins) and the FBI — will converge in the deep, dark hills of eastern Kentucky to search for Drew Thompson, a longtime missing person with a mysterious connection to Raylan's imprisoned dad, Arlo (Raymond J. Barry)."

Yost tells TV Guide the key relationship between Raylan and Boyd will shift this season into something akin to predator and prey, but it's not clear which guy is in which role. "You don't want to just keep doing the same scene over and over again just 'cause it works," Timothy Olyphant says. "Don't give the people what they want. Give the people what they don't know they want." Of course, everyone knows fans want more Raylan and Boyd, so maybe the secret sauce is just a new dynamic for that relationship. Justified airs Tuesday nights at 10 p.m. on FX. Here's the synopsis for tonight's (January 22) Episode 3, "Truth and Consequences": "Drew Thompson's widow turns up and gets Raylan in hot water with the FBI, while Boyd's strike at the snake church is met with a surprising strike back."
