Kal Penn has filled out since playing Kumar to John Cho's Harold in Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle.

But that's not because he's obsessed with the mini-burgers that made him famous in the 2004 stoner flick. Kal is a vegetarian in real life. Back when the movie came out, he explained to USA Today, “When we were supposed to eat the burgers, I ate these soy patties."

Meat-lover or not, it's no wonder he's put on a few pounds: The actor's been ridiculously busy over the past eight years. In between escaping from Guantanamo Bay and celebrating Christmas in 3D the comedy's two sequels, Kal had an award-winning role in the 2006 movie The Namesake; enjoyed a two-season run on House (as Dr. Lawrence Kutner); took a gig as a UPENN guest lecturer; and appeared in the current season of How I Met Your Mother. Oh, and he's Obama's Associate Director in the White House Office of Public Engagement, an office he's held on and off since April 2009.

In the pipeline are an ABC comedy pilot called Prairie Dogs and a cameo in the May 21 series finale of House.

So what if he's eaten a lot of soy-patty White Castles gained a little weight? We think it kinda suits him!
