Move aside, Taylor Swift. Katy Perry has some famous exes to sing about.
Katy Perry's life has changed a lot since 2010's Teenage Dream, and she said her new album "will be much darker."
"It was inevitable, after what I went through," Katy said last year (via MTV). "If I had a time machine and could go back in time, I would. But I can't, so you'll discover another part of me."
Katy told OK! she's been drawing on her real-life experiences in the songwriting process. She definitely has enough relationship heartbreak to work with, including her split with ex-husband Russell Brand and on-off relationship with John Mayer. But we'll have to read between the lines to figure out her subjects, since she's not going to make it that obvious. "Maybe I'm not specific with names, but that's my lockbox where all my secrets go. Writing is like therapy. [My songs] stem from the truth inside of me," Katy said. "I just want songs to be relatable, and to be adopted as someone else's soundtrack."
Katy is still in the writing and recording process, and there's no word yet on when the new album will be released.
