Don't diss Lady Gaga. Especially if you're insults aren't up to date.

Recently, Staten Island Borough President James Molinaro caused a stir when he called controversial megastar Lady Gaga a "slut" and a bad influence on kids. Now Gaga is hitting back — and she couldn't be classier about it.

In fact, Gaga didn't directly attack Molinaro at all. Instead, she tweeted this message at Manhattan Borough President Scott M. Stringer, who has issued a statement calling Gaga "a social justice activist and a real leader for marriage equality in this country": "To @scottmstringer of Manhattan, thanku for your support of my activism as a new yorker. You show political integrity + a modern vernacular."

This implication, of course, is that Molinaro did not show integrity, and also … didn't use modern vernacular?

Actually, Gaga may have a point there. While "slut" is still an unfortunately common insult, Molinaro wasn't referring to Gaga's skin-baring outfits or provocative music videos — things that might get her labeled a "slut" by some these days — but her use of marijuana on stage at a concert in Amsterdam.

Molinaro told the New York Times that he looked up "slut" in the dictionary prior to making his statement (why?). He claims it's the right word to use for her pot-smoking ways, because it means "improper conduct." While that may technically be true, doing drugs ain't exactly the "improper conduct" most people mean when they use the word.

So not only did Molinaro casually throw around a gross insult, but he used it in a bizarre way. No wonder Lady Gaga complimented Stringer for being more with it.
