Project Runway alum Chris March was the toast of the town Tuesday at the premiere party for his new Bravo show, Mad Fashion, at Yotel in New York City. Wetpaint Entertainment stopped by for an exclusive chat with the over-the-top designer, whose hew show features him toiling away to impress such celebs as Secret Life of the American Teenager’s Jennifer Coolidge (Betty Boykewich) and ex New Jersey Housewife Dina Manzo — when he isn’t busy working for the biggest star in the world, that is.

Wetpaint Entertainment: How did you land this gig?
Chris March: I don’t know. I guess once I was on Project Runway and the shows aired I started realizing that people liked me and that I was kind of popular, but I never thought I’d end up with my own TV show.

Of all the former Runway stars, why do you think Bravo picked you?
What I make for a living is pretty outrageous in general and, I don’t know, maybe I’m kind of fun and funny. People just seem to be drawn to me and they want to see what I make, so maybe it’s just a good combination. People come to me with all sorts of different ideas. I’ve been commissioned to do a fashion show where everything was made out of fresh vegetables. I made a dress out of a TV set, I’ve covered things with hundreds of thousands of Swarovski crystals. I recently made an outfit for Lady Gaga.

What did you do for Gaga?
This last weekend there was an iHeartRadio event in Las Vegas and she entered on this giant, like, 25-foot motorcycle set, and they wanted her to have some sort of long Matrix-y looking motorcycle jacket covered in studs. So they called me up and asked me if I would make it, so I did, and she wore it. It was really exciting.
