As many dedicated American Horror Story fans predicted, the setting for the Ryan Murphy miniseries (AHS changed its Emmy category from drama to miniseries, since each season starts anew) will be a mental institution. Just the words “mental” and “institution” send chills up our spine, knowing what the twisted writers of AHS can do with this concept.

Entertainment Weekly reports that Ryan revealed the Season 2 location at a TV Academy Panel yesterday (April 18). He said the second season “is set on the East Coast at an institution for the criminally insane that is run by Jessica [Lange].”

Note that “criminally insane” denotes that the ghosts wandering through the probably-decrepit halls are more than just your average One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest weirdos. They could be murderers, rapists, or even terrorists.

As we previously reported, Jessica, Zachary Quinto, Evan Peters (who played the deranged Kurt Cobain-esque ghost Tate Langdon in Season 1), Sarah Paulson (who played a medium), and Lily Rabe (Murder House’s original owner) will all return for Season 2, though they will play completely different characters.
