UPDATE (July 10, 2013):
A lot has gone down in the last two months, but it still seems like Miley and Liam are still on. Liam's brothers apparently wanted him to dump Miley in May. A couple weeks later came the sketchy report that the two were sleeping in separate bedrooms. At the end of may, Us Weekly's cover story touted the demise of the relationship, a claim perhaps substantiated a week later when Liam joined Twitter but neglected to follow Miley.
But then — hope springs eternal! — around mid-June, the two were photographed on a movie date. A couple days later, a source told Perez Hilton that Miley had a "change of heart" and was trying to make it work. And just this past weekend, they hiked and posed with a fan in Alberta, Canada. Fingers crossed!
Original story (May 3, 2013):
With all the rumors flying, it’s hard to keep track of whether Miley Cyrus and hunky Hunger Games fiancé Liam Hemsworth are “smooth sailing” toward a wedding or if that ‘ship is on the rocks.
Luckily, we’ve been scouting out news on the on-again, off-again lovers. And as far as we know, the Hollywood power couple is still intact, though we hear that they are taking a break from each other.
Liam recently flew home to Australia for a bit, and Miley was spotted without her engagement ring shortly thereafter. Sources say that Liam may be feeling some cold feet, and that Miley is cooling off on him, too.
Apparently, Miley's not even talking to friends about her relationship, let alone the media. “We keep our relationship low-key and don't talk about it any more,” the starlet told Elle.
Meanwhile, Snoop Dogg — or is that Snoop Lion? — told HuffPost Live that Miley is in “a relationship that no longer exists.” That certainly doesn't bode well, does it?
Miley and Liam met in 2009 while they filmed the Nicholas Sparks romance The Last Song. After a rocky three-year romance, Liam proposed to Miley on May 31, 2012, right after she had finished recording a “Backyard Session” version of the James Shelton song “Lilac Wine.”
Since then, Miley has dramatically colored and cut her hair — now sporting a punky, platinum chop — and she and Liam have expanded their canine collection to six dogs.
Miley has also taken to ditching her Disney starlet persona. (Hannah Montana no more!) Her music and fashion have gotten edgier, she has appeared topless on the cover of Vanity Fair, and she famously made a comment about smoking “way too much f—king weed.”
Meanwhile, Liam has skyrocketed to fame with the coveted role of Gale Hawthorne in the Hunger Games franchise, opposite Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson. Between that and his role in 2012’s The Expendables 2, he’s all set to take the lead in the upcoming star-studded thriller Paranoia.
Let’s just hope that’s not the theme of Miley and Liam’s relationship status.
