The more details that emerge about Modern Family star Ariel Winter’s family struggles, the sadder the situation seems. TMZ has several stories about the situation, ranging from accusations of greed made against Ariel’s older sister to authorities’ incredulity over her mother’s claims that the 14-year-old actress was engaging in inappropriate behavior with an 18-year-old.
Last month, a judge ordered the young star removed from her home after allegations of physical and emotional abuse were raised against her mother, Crystal Workman. Ariel is currently staying with older sister Shanelle, who has temporary custody.
In an earlier statement to Celebuzz (via TMZ), Crystal denies the allegations, implying the accusations were fabricated after she tried to split up Ariel and her boyfriend. “My 14-year-old daughter has been dating an 18-and-a-half-year-old man, and when I caught them engaging in behavior that I feel my daughter is too young mentally and physically to understand and fully grasp I put a stop to it immediately,” Crystal said.
Now TMZ is reporting authorities are skeptical of this claim, because Crystal “never went to cops until after she lost custody on October 3, even though she claims the affair's been going on since the beginning of summer.”
TMZ also reports that Crystal accused her daughter Shanelle of simply wanting access to her younger sister’s Modern Family money. However, court documents reveal that, when applying for guardianship, Ariel’s sister asked for the bank account to be inaccessible to everyone, including herself.
While Shanelle is on her sister’s side, Ariel's brother has refuted the allegations made against his mother.
E! Online reports that Ariel has broken up with her older boyfriend, actor Cameron Palatas.
