NCIS fans, get ready for a mind-bending experience when the long-running series’ 200th episode — “Life Before His Eyes” — airs on February 7.
Showrunner Gary Glasberg spills on the surreal premise to TVLine: “It very much is about a pivotal moment that Gibbs (Mark Harmon) faces,” he teases, “and it literally looks back at key moments through nine years of NCIS where decisions had to be made, and had people gone in one direction instead of another, how the world would have ended up.”
In one scene, Tony (Michael Weatherly) and Ziva (Cote de Pablo) cross paths for the first time — and in an entirely new way. “For the first time, I didn’t know what was going to happen [in a scene],” Michael Weatherly explains. “I literally had to concoct in my mind seven years of ‘What if there was no Ziva in Tony’s life, how would he have been different?’”
This begs an important question: Will Tiva happen in this alternate reality?
Most of the episode takes place in the diner where Gibbs gets his morning coffee, and in a sneak peek Glasberg screened for the Television Critics Association winter tour yesterday, a hooded stranger holding a gun walks up to Gibbs in the diner... and someone fires a shot.
The episode promises to be a wild, wild ride, but — per Glasberg — it ultimately leads Gibbs to “the realization that the decisions he has made were meant to be.”
Even at the ripe old age of 200 episodes, NCIS is pushing boundaries on the small screen. What craziness does Glasberg have up his sleeve for Episode 300?
