Holy Purell! One of our favorite new characters on the small screen — Schmidt of New Girl — is also the cleanest. He is a huge fan of hand sanitizer, and would never double-dip a taco chip. If you ask us, there is nothing wrong with that. But the producers of New Girl apparently disagree.
At the Fox All-Star Party at this week’s Television Critics Association meeting in Pasadena, Calif., Max Greenfield, who plays Schmidt, revealed exclusively to Wetpaint Entertainment that we can expect “a whole sanitizing episode. It’s brought to my attention that Schmidt might have a bit of a problem.” As in, his friends think, "it’s not a cleanliness thing. It’s a mental disorder." Well, that is certainly ridiculous. And by the way, what is his obsession with CeCe, who clearly does not follow proper sanitizing protocol, in the kitchen or anywhere else?
“Oh,” said Max, “Schmidt is really into that. He’s got a big crush on her so he can overlook her uncleanliness. Or he can feel like maybe he can change her.” Not that CeCe is Schmidt’s only romantic entanglement. Max said that Schmidt will also become involved “a little bit with my boss at work, played by Gillian Vigman, who’s about as good as it gets. I love working with her. She’s so funny, I can’t wait for people to see it.”
Another thing people can’t wait to see is ab-licious Ryan Kwanten of True Blood, who will appear on New Girl’s Valentine’s Day episode. Will he and Schmidt have a shirt-off? “We talked about it,” said Max, “I don’t want to get into that because I will lose.”
