With New Girl’s sophomore season set to kick off in just a few short weeks, Wetpaint Entertainment caught up with stars Jake Johnson (Nick) and Max Greenfield (Schmidt) at the New FOX Tuesday Screening Event on August 26. Thanks to these two jokesters, we now we have the scoop on “future Nick,” Schmidt’s penis cast removal party, and whether love is in store for their characters.
Read on to see if there’s hope for Nick & Jess (Zooey Deschanel) and Schmidt & Cece (Hannah Simone) in Season 2!
Wetpaint Entertainment: What can we expect from Nick this season? He was struggling to find a career and a lady, and really, what he wanted out of life.
Jake Johnson: Totally. It’s going to be more of the struggle and I know that something is going to happen this year where Nick’s life is going to be altered slightly. I don’t know what it will be.
Like he’s going to get hitched?
Jake: I don’t know, they haven’t told me. They just said some big things are going to happen this season, Nick meets himself in the future. He encounters himself as a time traveler.
What? Jake are you giving me crap?
Jake: No! I’m being serious!
Jake: He meets himself in the future, I’m being serious. Raymond Berry plays future Nick, that was really fun. There is more of the same with Jess and Nick.
More of the same or are we going to explore where their relationship could go?
Jake: Yeah, the next episode we are shooting is all about their relationship. They finally start talking about some of the stuff that some of the fans have been commenting on and a lot of the people have been saying they feel like the show is going in that direction. These characters finally address it, to one another, of where they are kind of at with it.
Would you want a relationship between Nick and Jess?
Jake: I’m definitely not against it.
What goes into the planning of a penis cast removal party?
Jake, to Max Greenfield: You can answer that one.
Max: Fire and shots girls.
Did your roommates sign your cast?
Jake: I don’t think we did that bit, no.
Max: That would be weird.
Well what about Cece [Hannah Simone] then?
Max: She doesn’t sign it, we’re not on the best terms when we start off. It got weird last season, did you see the show, it got weird and it got difficult. And when it gets difficult between a man and a woman you don’t usually have them sign the penis cast so quickly after it happens.
Jake: Or you’re a cool cat and you just play your games.
So what can we expect going forward between Schmidt and Cece?
Max: I don’t know, that’s up to the writers. No, what’s up for me and Cece, uh, I think we’re finding that friend zone.
So it is over? It’s not over?!
Max: I don’t know, we’ll see what happens.
Jake: It’s never over, we hopefully have a lot of seasons to do this show.
New Girl Season 2 will kick off Tuesday, September 25 at 8/7c and 9/8c on FOX (8-8:30 p.m. and 9-9:30 p.m.).
