The newest trailer for Aaron Sorkin’s The Newsroom on HBO is out, and unlike previous promos, we actually get a sense of the pressure that Jeff Daniels’s character is under.
If you don't already know, Jeff will be playing Will McAvoy, the anchor of a Hardball With Chris Matthews-esque nightly news program. His executive producer is played by Emily Mortimer, and his bosses are Jane Fonda and Sam Waterston.
Until now, however, most of the promos we’ve seen seemed to portray Will as a sort of brat, or a curmudgeon a la Harrison Ford’s character in Morning Glory. But, in this third official trailer, we learn that he’s usually kept on a very tight, very uncomfortable corporate leash, encouraged to stay neutral and ask only softball questions. Very underhanded, Larry King-like softballs.
But with his new EP, and a newsroom staff played by Dev Patel, Olivia Munn, Alison Pill, and John Gallagher Jr., he’s finally ready to put on some boxing gloves and actually throw punches.
Check out the newest trailer below, and share your thoughts in the comments. Will you watch?
The Newsroom premieres on Sunday, June 24 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on HBO.
