NBA player Jason Collins becoming the first active pro athlete in a team sport to come out as gay was a joyous occasion. For most people.

Hours after 34-year-old Boston Celtics center Jason Collins announced that he is gay on April 29, NFL All-Pro wide receiver Mike Wallace tweeted a controversial statement, according to TMZ.

“All these beautiful women in the world, and guys wanna mess with other guys, SMH [shakin' my head]…” 26-year-old Mike writes.

The tweet was quickly deleted, and Mike attempted to explain himself.

"Never said anything was right or wrong  I just said I don't understand!!" Mike later tweeted. "Deeply sorry for anyone that I offended."

Mike's team, the Miami Dolphins, have spoken out against his comments.

"Mike Wallace has apologized for his comments, and we have addressed the matter with him," the team says in a statement. "Mike’s comments do not reflect the views of the Miami Dolphins. We believe in a culture of inclusiveness and respect, and any statements to the contrary are in no way acceptable to our organization."

Also making controversial comments was ESPN analyst Chris Broussard, according to E! Online.

"If you're openly living that type of lifestyle, then the Bible says you know them by their fruits," Chris says on Outside the Lines. "It says, you know, that's a sin.

A note to Mike and Chris: The rest of us are living in 2013. You might want to join us.
