This show had better have a great hair and makeup budget/team to turn Portia de Rossi into Lily Munster and Jerry O’Connell into Herman Munster. They are the stars of the upcoming NBC show, Mockingbird Lane, which had its title changed from The Munsters.
Why the title change? Show honcho Bryan Fuller told Entertainment Weekly, “The script is such a dramatic departure from the tone and style of the original show. If we continued to call the show The Munsters, people are just going to to think we’re doing The Munsters. We’re doing a reinvention and re-imagination of this property."
The hour-long dramedy — which will also star Eddie Izzard as Grandpa — was pushed back from this fall because it was such a tough show to cast. At this point, it will possibly get a midseason launch.
Do you think Portia and Jerry are a good fit for Munsters 2.0? Should they have just kept the original title? It has more power than Mockingbird Lane, which sounds like a next-street-over spinoff of Desperate Housewives.
