South African Olympian Oscar Pistorius, a double-amputee sprinter, was charged on February 15 with the Valentine’s Day murder of his model girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp. Prosecutors are now pursuing a premeditated murder charge, contrary to Oscar’s assertion that he shot and killed Reeva after mistaking her for a thief.
In tandem with the court proceedings, a debate is also raging about the decision to air a 10-episode reality show featuring the late model.
“You fall in love with being in love with love,” Reeva says in one clip from the show, Tropika Island of Treasure.
Critics have slammed the move as “opportunistic,” but creator Samantha Moon defends it in a statement to CNN.
“Reeva was an intelligent, beautiful, and amazing woman, and we feel it would be an injustice to keep that unknown from those who did not know her personally,” Samantha explains.
What do you think: Is it in poor taste to air the show, or is it a fitting tribute to a too-short life?
