So what's new in Gungate 2012?
Pippa Middleton got herself in some royally hot water when she was photographed sitting in the passenger seat of a car in Paris on April 14 as the driver pointed what appeared to be a semiautomatic pistol at a paparazzo in pursuit of their Audi convertible.
Even if the gun is fake, as the passengers claim, all four individuals in the car could face steep fines or prison time if the photographer elects to file an official complaint with the police. Recent gun violence and terrorist activity in France have put authorities on high alert.
Now we know the identity of the driver who decided to brandish the gun.
According to Page Six, he’s Romain Rabillard, a top criminal lawyer who works for a fancy U.S. firm in Paris. A fixture of the city's lavish party scene, he was also in attendance at Viscount Arthur de Soultrait's wild-'n'-sexy 30th birthday bash — the high-society event that brought Her Royal Hotness to gay Paree in the first place.
Pippa's friend, the aristocratic birthday boy, has issued a statement: "Last Saturday I was in a car with Philippa Middleton, and we were being followed by paparazzi.
"She had been subject to constant and dangerous harassment by paparazzi throughout her time in Paris. The car was being driven by a friend of mine, whom Pippa had only met a few hours before. As a joke, my friend brandished a toy pistol in their direction.
"Obviously Philippa had no idea that he was going to do that and told him to stop immediately. She did not find it funny.
"I regret enormously that this incident happened, and especially that Pippa has been subject to the subsequent attention through no fault of her own. I have apologized to her for this."
But is an apology enough to calm Pippa's older sister, Kate, and her royal in-laws? They're none-too-pleased about the incident, reports Us Weekly. "This is embarrassing for them," a royal source says, adding that Pippa’s involvement in the gun-waving incident "has put Kate in a very difficult position."
