The world has been thrust (so to speak) into mourning after the loss of one of its earliest male porn stars.

Harry Reems, who rose (ahem) to prominence with 1972's Deep Throat, has sadly died of pancreatic cancer, according to Us Weekly.

Harry — whose real name is the much less sexy Herbert Streicher — was 65 and had been battling the disease for about a year.

Harry's friend Don Schenk was the first person to reveal the heartbreaking news.

"I met Harry some 20 years ago, long after he had left the adult film industry — an industry that almost destroyed him," Don reveals.

"Over the years my wife and I have become close friends with Harry and his wife [Jeannie], and began to spend time on the phone with them several times a month, ski with them every winter, and go visit during the summer," Don continues.

Harry, who was only paid $100 for Deep Throat, later earned such credits as Back Door BrideForced Entry, and Those Young Girls

Harry faced legal trouble in the mid-'70s when he was charged with conspiracy to distribute obscenity across state lines. The charges were later dropped.

He dealt with drug and alcohol abuse over the years and even ended up homeless in Hollywood at one point.

However, the story has a happy ending (cough), as he sobered up in 1989 and found religion. He married Jeannie, who survives him, and he became a successful real-estate agent in Salt Lake City. The couple did not have any kids.

We're glad Harry was able to turn things around after his hard (wink) life.

We'll miss you, Harry. Our thoughts are with his family and friends during this difficult time.
