Reese Witherspoon and her husband, talent agent Jim Toth, were both arrested after being stopped by the police for drunk driving in Atlanta after midnight on Friday, April 19, 2013. The couple was in the South shooting a new film called The Good Lie. The Oscar-winning actress was charged with "disorderly conduct (obstruction)” after her husband was charged with a DUI. Here's what went down.
The Atlanta police pulled the celebrity couple over after observing their car weaving between lanes. Police reported that during her husband's questioning, Reese grew impatient with how long the process was taking, started complaining, and was then ordered back into her car. After continued complaining and repeatedly disobeying orders, an officer told Variety that he "told Mrs. Witherspoon to sit on her butt and be quiet."
The report details this heated verbal altercation between the officer and Reese, where she used her celebrity as a threat: "Mrs. Witherspoon asked, 'Do you know my name?' I answered, 'No, I don't need to know your name.' I then added, 'Right now.' Mrs. Witherspoon stated, 'You're about to find out who I am.'... Mrs. Witherspoon also stated, 'You're going to be on national news.' I advised Mrs. Witherspoon that was fine."
Both Reese and Jim were taken to jail, booked, and then released on bond a few hours later at 3:30 a.m. ET that same day. We wonder how this arrest will affect Reese's squeaky clean media image?
