Pop superstar Rihanna came under fire when she decided to collaborate with Chris Brown on her risqué single “Birthday Cake” in spite of their tumultuous past — namely the explosive argument in 2009 that culminated in him assaulting her.
The 24-year-old Barbadian beauty opened up about her decision to reach out to her infamous ex on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show Thursday morning (via Us Weekly), explaining that he was “the only person that really made sense... just as a musician.” RiRi admits that she considered other options, but when it came down to it, she considered Chris to be “the hottest R&B artist out right now.”
Once Chris agreed to it, he asked her to return the favor by appearing on his track “Turn Up the Music.” In Rihanna’s eyes, it was a good way to get their fans to let bygones be bygones. “There shouldn’t be a divide,” she explained. “It’s music and it’s innocent.”
Sure, Chris Brown can sing, but we’re going to have to side with Jay-Z on this one...
