Becoming Twilight’s Edward Cullen was a major transformation for Robert Pattinson, and we’re not talking about the gold contacts or the perfectly coifed hair.

To say that Robert was rocketed to stardom after the first Twilight film is an understatement. And now, Hollywood Life reports that the actor told Premiere magazine that the fame didn’t sit well with him at first.

“I went through a big time of depression between 23 and 25, I couldn’t go where I wanted to go. I was in the tabloids every day and I didn’t have access to the roles I really wanted. I wanted more, on every level,” Robert said.

After finishing the first film, Robert was worried about what such a big role would mean for his career. “I thought everything was going to be served on a plate, but that’s not how it works. I finally realized that you needed to earn this change I so desperately wanted. That one way or another, you had to suffer to be able to make it.”

But now we think it’s safe to say that Robert has made it. We’re just happy that he doesn’t spend his days brooding like his blood-sucking counterpart. No offense, Edward.
