Rosie O'Donnell joined Matt Lauer, Star Jones and Donny Deutsch on the Today show this morning, and when the subject of Lindsay Lohan's new starring role in the Lifetime movie about Elizabeth Taylor came up, Rosie didn't miss a beat in disapproving of the casting move.
"She's had a lot of trouble doing every single movie, including SNL," Rosie said. "She was out and not at rehearsal. I think she's not in a place to work." Star Jones agreed, saying that Lindsay hasn't really done much recently to prove her worth as an actress.
Only Donny disagreed, saying "It's a great idea. She's our generation's Elizabeth Taylor." That's quite a claim, Mr. Deutsch! Rosie was quick to snuff him out though, telling him to shut up and stating flatly, "I don't think she's capable at this point of doing what's needed to portray that character."
Naturally, and in true 2012 style, the conversation quickly moved to the Twittersphere, with Lindsay's stalwart dad Michael Lohan blasting Rosie O: "@Rosie that's YOUR opinion and UR entitled, but to slam her on national TV is/was wrong," he tweeted. "Remember how YOU felt! Ie: Donald for starts." In quick retort, Rosie laid it on thick in her characteristic style: "...she needs help - nobody around her seems to get that - it's tragic what has become of her life - work isn't gonna fix her."
May the best tweeter win! And only time will tell if Lindsay will finally reclaim her talents as an actress—here's hoping.
