We’ve all swooned and sobbed over Ryan Gosling’s performance as Noah in The Notebook, but according to TMZ R. Kelly took the film’s underlying message about lifelong true love to heart — and to divorce court.
In his new memoir Soulacoaster: The Diary of Me, R. talks candidly about how watching The Notebook caused him to realize that his own 12-year marriage to back-up dancer Andrea Kelly couldn’t compete with Noah and Allie’s (Rachel McAdams) epic romance.
As the film credits started to roll, I couldn't move. I burst into tears. People walking past me patted me on the back, trying to console me. The Notebook was beautiful, and I was crying because its hero and heroine had died together.
But I was also crying because I remembered a Valentine's Day — when a helicopter dropped a rainfall of roses — that had come and gone ... My marriage had died. And there was nothing I could do to bring it back.
We usually cry at the end of The Notebook, too — but it’s into a pint of ice cream as we’re hugging a body pillow and putting on Crazy, Stupid, Love.
In other words, we feel you, R.
