The Spring Breakers star took the stage at the MTV Movie Awards on April 14 while wearing a sparkly bindi on her forehead, which has caused controversy, according to Huffington Post.
Selena wore a bindi while performing her new single "Come and Get It," and now leaders at the Universal Society of Hinduism want her to apologize for wearing a religious symbol.
A pic of Selena wearing the religious adornment can be seen here.
"The bindi on the forehead is an ancient tradition in Hinduism and has religious significance," says Hindu statesman Rajan Zed told WENN. "It is also sometimes referred to as the third eye and the flame, and it is an auspicious religious and spiritual symbol."
"It is not meant to be thrown around loosely for seductive effects or as a fashion accessory aiming at mercantile greed," he continues. "Selena should apologize, and then she should get acquainted with the basics of world religions."
Before her performance at the awards show, Selena had said that her costume would be "glam tribal" to fit the vibe of the song.
Selena has not apologized for wearing the bindi, and we're thinking she probably won't, given that she then wore a bindi again while performing the song on Ellen DeGeneres's show on April 16.
So do you think Selena should stop wearing it? Or do you love her bindi like a love song, baby?
