Here's some good news to Hulk out over!

According to Deadline, production is starting immediately on an ABC pilot for S.H.I.E.L.D., which will focus on the law enforcement team featured in the Marvel comic books and also in director Joss Whedon's megahit film The Avengers. (Just like we hoped.)

Whedon is co-writing the pilot and will also direct it, if his schedule permits. Whedon is pretty well known for his geek-tacular awesomeness. He’s the guy who helped give us Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Firefly, so he knows from good — or at least obsessively cult — TV. (Please cast Nathan Fillion in a role! The Firefly vet is already part of the ABC family with Castle...)

S.H.I.E.L.D. stands for either Strategic Hazard Intervention Espionage Logistics Directorate or Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division.

Either way, the group is run by Nick Fury, played by Samuel L. Jackson in The Avengers. Will he be on the show, at least in a cameo? We can’t wait to hear details...
