Showtime has ordered two pilots to series for 2013: Ray Donovan and Masters of Sex. The former centers on a Los Angeles fixer (Liev Schreiber) who can make practically any problem disappear, and the latter is about William Masters (Michael Sheen) and Virginia Johnson (Lizzy Caplan), the real-life pioneers of the science of human sexuality.
“I want shows to feel very clear about what’s great about them and what’s entertaining about them,” explains David Nevins, Showtime’s president of entertainment. “And I think both of these shows will be perceived as highly entertaining.”
While Ray Donovan represents Schreiber's first series regular role, Sheen and Caplan have both enjoyed memorable guest arcs on some of TV’s most popular shows — from 30 Rock (Sheen) to New Girl and True Blood (Caplan).
