According to a songwriter named Guy Hobbs, Elton John is a music burglar. He may have gotten away with it for almost three decades, but now Guy claims to have revealed his song-stealing ways, according to TMZ.

Guy Hobbs says the lyrics for Elton John’s 1985 song Nikita are a ripoff of lyrics he wrote three years earlier for a song called Natasha. Guy says he shopped the song to Elton John’s music publisher, Big Pig. He’s filed suit in an Illinois court to demand damages.

So why has Hobbs waited 28 years for his day in court? Guy says he’s been living in Africa since 1984 and news travels slow. Really? They don’t have iTunes in Africa? Or Spotify? Or the radio?
